PoP is a-comin'!

Push of Pike is a Renaissance wargames gathering that has been running since 2004. Up to now its been solidly 15mm DBR, themed (except for 2004 and 2010) and either 400 or 500AP. Also it has always been run by the redoubtable Philip Abela. This year PA is taking a well deserved rest. Brer Brown and I are having a crack at it.

Here is the official whatsits

PoP 2011 Competition Details
Welcome to the information details for the 8th Annual Push of Pike Renaissance Wargames convention, hosted as always by the North Shore Wargames Club.
This year’s PoP will be held on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September at the Forrest Hill Scout Hall, just off the Tristram Rd off-ramp from State Highway 1.
As there has been much interest from players up and down the country, we are pleased to offer up to three competitions rather than just 15mm DBR as in past years. All that is required for a competition to happen is for six players to register. If you want it, it will happen!
Due to the high level of interest shown to date and limitations on space and tables, we will be opening registration on 1 July and closing registrations once we have 24 paid-up players (unless we suddenly get a bigger venue).  We will accept paid registrations prior to 1 July from Mainlanders and West Islanders who need certainty of place to book air travel.
The fee to attend PoP 2011 is a mere $30. This covers lunch on both days, a trophy for each competition and our running expenses.
1.     DBR 28mm:
a.   450AP, book 1,2 or 3 open competition;
b.     Table size TBC, but likely. 8x5 or 8x6 depending on availability;
c.      One list, but you may submit a supplementary list for use in defence only. The defender list MUST contain fortifications for a BUA and/or troop types which you are only permitted in a BUA. The defender list may have troops deleted from the main list and the remainder reorganized its commands to free up APs for the additions, BUT it may not otherwise differ from the main list. If a defender list is submitted it MUST be used if you are the defender;
d.     Lists are to be submitted to John Way after 3 September and before midnight on 10 September. I will deposit mine with one of the 15mm/FoGR players before the 3rd for the avoidance of unpleasantness.

2.     DBR 15mm:
a.     450 AP, themed; European armies 1600-1650. If the army’s home base is in Europe and it operated between the dates above it’s in. Note this therefore excludes European armies abroad such as Dutch and Portugese Colonial and the New Model in the West Indies;
b.     6x4 table;
c.      One list, submitted to Grant Brown before midnight on 10 September.
Both DBR competitions:
a.     DBR 2.0, normal scale
b.     Minimum 6 players required for competition to proceed;
c.      Two four hour rounds each day- 09:00 to 13:00 and 13:30 to 17:30.
d.     Scoring is 10-0 as per the Book;
e.     The draw for all four rounds will be made on 18 September. This is to ensure the maximum number of games are played between players from different towns;
f.       Deployment by alternating commands
The Deployment rules are as per the DBR 2.0 but with the following changes.
Deployment is in the following order:
(1) First the defender and then the invader place all fortifications and Baggage not embarked on naval elements or in a BUA;
(2) Both sides record the relative positions of their commands from left-to-right and from front-to-rear and the exact position and direction faced of troops in ambush;
(3) Each side alternately deploys one command, starting with the defender. Each side must deploy its command with the greatest number of ME, including Baggage. Its remaining commands can be deployed in any order. Deployment includes all land & naval elements and fixed obstacles except any in ambush;
(4) The defender places the concealed command (if any), less any ambushers it includes.

g.     300 pace flank zone, not 600 pace as per rulebook
h.     Shot(I) described as armed with Arquebus or Caliver may be upgraded to Arquebus (O) for 5AP. These have all the characteristics of Sh(I) except that they are graded (O) for combat outcomes. If any such are upgraded, all must be upgraded. You must tell your opponent if you have done this.
i.       Shot(I) described as armed with Musket may be upgraded to Musket (I) for 5AP. These have all the characteristics of Sh(O) except that they are graded (I) for combat outcomes. If any such are upgraded, all must be upgraded. You must tell your opponent if you have done this.
j.       Shot including (f) add +1 for one supporting element if fighting against shot.
k.     “Kiwi” points to be used, which are
