Ye Cassus Belli for Push of Pike 2016

Gentle Sirs

Here are the rules of engagement for our annual binge of Renaissance wonderfulness, Push of Pike.

Date: 10 and 11 September 2016

Where: Forest Hill Scout Hall, Becroft Ave, on Auckland's Merry Olde North Shore

Cost: $35. Includes lunch, snackage, tea and real coffee.
Rules: DBR 2.0 with modifications as below

Umpire: at this stage, me plus one other deputy (volunteers form an orderly queue)

Scale: 15mm, Normal scale

Theme: European Armies 1618 to 1665. This includes Turks (with Rumelian options), Russians, Cossacks.

AP: 450AP, Kiwi AP (see below)

Lists: 1 or 2 lists from the same year/named general/war etc, using the same interpretation of troop types (eg Arq (O) Shot in the first cannot be  Sh(i) in the second list). Decision on list to use is immediately after invader is determined.

List checking: Lists must be submitted to the List Checker/s by midnight 10 August 2016. Details of list checkers to follow.

Tables: 6'x4' or 1800mm x 1200mm. ish.

Victory points: Scoring as per DBR 2.0, plus 100 if your opponent's army is broken and yours is not.

Medals: First place, Second Place, Best Army. The last on popular vote- best painted, presented, historical composition, terrain etc.

Timing: 4 rounds of up to 4 hours each.

Player briefing at 08:45 on the 10th, 1st round of each day starts at 09:00, 2nd round of each day starts at 14:00 (or earlier by agreement between players).

Draw: first round at least will be historical clashes first, then contemporaries, then historical national enemies, then random. Second and subsequent draws will be modified Swiss Chess. All but the last draw may be fiddled to prevent out-of-towners playing clubmates.

Compulsory rule modifications

Deployment and first move. Both sides deploy as specified in the rulebook. Defendertakes the first bound.

Distributed ME (but not deployment) for baggage. One to two non-allied baggage contributes its ME to a command, and to the army breakpoint. Allied baggage operates exactly as in the rulebook. Mobile non-allied baggage may be moved with the CinC’s PiPs.

Overhead shooting. To be a valid target for overhead shooting, an enemy element must not be less than a base width beyond any part of an intervening friendly element.

Flank support requires the elements to be grouped. This is the way it is usually played anyway.

Optional rule modifications

Troops classified in the WRG lists as Sh(I) and described as armed with arquebus or caliver or teppo may be chosen as Arq (O) for 5AP. Shoot 100p, outcomes as Sh(O).

Troops classified in the WRG lists as Sh(I) and described as armed with musket may be chosen as Mkt(I) for 5AP. Shoot 200p, outcomes as Sh(I).

Troops classified in the WRG lists as Sh(F) and described as armed with musket may be chosen as Mkt(F) for 6AP. Shoot 200p, outcomes as Sh(F).

Kriegsarticlesbrief for Push of Pike 2015

Gentle Sirs

here are the rules of engagement for our annual binge of Renaissance wonderfulness, Push of Pike.

Date: 10 and 11 October 2015

Where: Forest Hill Scout Hall, Becroft Ave, on Auckland's Merry Olde North Shore

Cost: $33. Includes lunch, snackage, tea and real coffee.
Rules: DBR 2.0 with modifications as below

Umpire: at this stage, me plus one other deputy (volunteers form an orderly queue)

Scale: 15mm, Normal scale

Theme: Armies and Enemies of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V 1516 (his accession as King of Spain and Naples) to 1556 (abdication). Armies of will therefore include Spanish Imperial, Neapolitan Spanish and Conquistador from 1516 and Maximillian Imperial in 1519, the latter as the Imperial army presumably did not change overnight with his election. Enemies being any force that fought the armies of Spain from 1516 to 1556, or the armies of the HRE from June 1519 to 1556. Yes that does include Aztecs and Incas!

AP: 400AP, Kiwi AP (see below)

Lists: 1 or 2 lists from the same year/named general/tribe etc, using the same interpretation of troop types (eg Arq (S) Tercio arquebusiers in the first list must also be (S) in the second list). Decision on list to use is immediately after invader is determined.

List checking: Lists must be submitted to the List Checker/s by midnight 10 September 2015. Details of list checkers to follow.

Tables: 6'x4' or 1800mmx1200mm. ish.

Victory points: Scoring as per DBR 2.0, plus 100 if your opponent's army is broken and yours is not.

Medals: First place, Second Place, Best Army. The last on popular vote- best painted, presented, historical composition, terrain etc.

Timing: 4 rounds of 4 hours each, unless there is some funny early close-out on Sunday.

Player briefing at 08:45 on the 10th, 1st round of each day starts at 09:00, 2nd round of each day starts at 14:00 (or earlier by agreement between players).

Draw: first round at least will be 'Armies of' v 'Enemies of'. Historical clashes first, then non-historical, then clashes of Enemies, then random.

Compulsory rule modifications

Deployment and first move. Both sides deploy as specified in the rulebook. Defender takes the first bound.

Distributed ME (but not deployment) for baggage. One to two non-allied baggage contributes its ME to a command, and to the army breakpoint. Allied baggage operates exactly as in the rulebook. Mobile non-allied baggage may be moved with the CinC’s PiPs.

Troops classified in the WRG lists as Sh(F) and described as armed with musket may be chosen as Mkt(F) for 6AP. Shoot 200p, outcomes as Sh(F).

Spanish Tercio Arquebusiers currently described as Sh(I), Ottoman Janissaries described as Sh(F), and Russian Streltsi may be  chosen as Arq (S) for 7AP. Shoot 100p, outcomes as Sh(S).
