Kriegsarticlesbrief for DBR at NatCon 2015

Greetings gentles all.

I am the tournament organiser for DBR at the National Convention in Auckland this year.

After extensive polling and wide ranging consultation with stakeholders and a bottle of cheap but agreeable Merlot, I am pleased to advise the following Rules of Engagement for NatCon 2015

Rules: DBR 2.0 with modifications as below

Umpire: at this stage, me plus one other deputy (volunteers form an orderly queue)

Scale: 15mm, Normal scale

Theme: Open

AP: 400AP, Kiwi AP (see below)

Lists: 1 or 2 lists from the same year/named general/tribe etc, using the same interpretation of troop types (eg Arq (S) Tercio arquebusiers in the first list must also be (S) in the second list). Decision on list to use is immediately after invader is determined.

List checking: Lists must be submitted to the List Checker/s by 3 March 2015. Details of list checkers to follow.

Tables: 6'x4' or 1800mmx1200mm. ish.

Victory points: Scoring as per DBR 2.0, plus 100 if your opponent's army is broken and yours is not.

Timing: 6 rounds of 4 hours each, unless there is some funny early close-out on Sunday.

Player briefing at 08:45 on Good Friday, 1st round of each day starts at 09:00, 2nd round of each day starts at 14:00 (or earlier by agreement between players).

Draw: first round historical/contemporary (rigged to prevent West Islanders playing each other), thereafter modified Swiss Chess.

Compulsory rule modifications

Alternating commands for deployment. Defender largest command by elements, invader largest command by elements, defender another command, invader any other command, defender another command, etc.

Distributed ME (but not deployment) for baggage. One to two non-allied baggage contributes its ME to a command, and to the army breakpoint. Non-allied baggage is grouped together, but can be in the deployment rectangle of any or multiple or no commands. Mobile baggage may be moved with the CinC’s PiPs.

Flank support requires the elements to be grouped. This is the way it is usually played anyway.

Optional rule modifications

Troops classified in the WRG lists as Sh(I) and described as armed with arquebus or caliver or teppo may be chosen as Arq (O) for 5AP. Shoot 100p, outcomes as Sh(O).

Troops classified in the WRG lists as Sh(I) and described as armed with musket may be  chosen as Mkt(I) for 5AP. Shoot 200p, outcomes as Sh(I).

Troops classified in the WRG lists as Sh(F) and described as armed with musket may be  chosen as Mkt(F) for 6AP. Shoot 200p, outcomes as Sh(F).

Spanish Tercio Arquebusiers currently described as Sh(I), Ottoman Janissaries described as Sh(F), and Russian Streltsi may be  chosen as Arq (S) for 7AP. Shoot 100p, outcomes as Sh(S).
